The Rest of 2008

Now finally that the hightly anticipated release of the Dark Knight has come and gone what do we have to look forward to the rest of the year?

Some people are saying that 2008 has so far been the best year for movies in the last 10 years, Carlyle from Spill.com is saying as far back as 80's. I do agree that this year has been good thus far with release such as:

Cloverfield

Jumper

Wanted

Iron Man

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

The Incredible Hulk

Get Smart

Wall-E

Hancock

Hellboy 2: The Golden Army

Im not saying they were all blockbusters, but enjoyable. I really can't say I have seen a movie yet this year that I have hated...oh wait there was August Rush BOOOOOO!!! I really don't know why I wasted my time on it.

The thunder doesn't stop with Batman, there are more releases that are looking like they will be hitting some of our Fav's Lists.

The legendary talent being brought together for this film screams for attention. Could this be the next Heat or Departed?

In addition to a city going dark, and a very brief look at the new Gort, the film trailer shows a cloud of black smoke, capable of rapid movement and disintegrating matter on contact.

Dark Knight "Taking it to the Bank"

From what I here the opening scene for the "Dark Knight" is a bank heist at Gotham National Bank but it seems like it is the caped crusader who is running away with the cash.

The midnight shows at 1400+ theaters across North America were selling out faster then tickets could be printed, so they added a 3am showing and that too sold out, once again a 6am showing was added. This move seems to have paid off because an $18 Million dollar score was made.

Now, on the official starting day of Friday, July 18th (regular theater opening time) really showed what this movie was worth, early reports show that as of Saturday morning this movie had pulled in about $55+ Million dollars, not including the $18 Million from early morning shows.

Now this kind of hype has really made me want to put in the effort to go to the theater, fight for parking, walk a few blocks, stand in a line for the tickets...praying it doesn't sell out, then stand in another line for an hour (basically taking 2-3 hours of my life) just to support this film so that hopefully it also breaks the opening weekend box office total.

The current Top 5 "All time box office opening weekends" are:

Spider Man 3 - $ 151.1 Million

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Shrek the Third

Spider Man

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Giving Sony 2 movies (Spider Man) and Jerry Bruckheimer Films 2 movies (Pirates) in the top five, and now along comes Warner Bros. with the help of Christopher and Jonathan Nolan to maybe putting them on the top of the list. Keep in mind that Spider Man 3 opening night made $59.8 Million, that's a $10.6 Mill. difference!

For once critics and audience seem to be on the same page. Reviews from Rotten Tomatoes, IGN which are 2 of the biggest review sites for movies (having real by the book critics), to Spill.com that has more of an audience point of view (personally my favorite), have all been saying the same thing "this years best movies".

Now that I sit back and look at the blog I have written my curiousity is killing me. I think I really need to see this movie today! So with that said...I shall return to write my review hopefully tomorrow, and I will do my best to not give anything away.

***UPDATE***

July 20th

The Bat has topped Spidey, taking in appox. $155.4 Million for the weekend! Congrats to WB, the Nolan's and especially Heath.

Spidey get his ass handed to him

The Dark Knight Desends Upon Us

Well, the Dark knight is just around the corner and I feel the Buzz in the air. I really believe the Knight will take the box office by storm and will hold the record for some time, atleast untill Spidey makes his appearence in 2010. Iron Man being my Favorite so far of the year and possible the best Superhero movie ever made to date, really stands no chance to the Bat, already advance ticket sales have surpassed Iron Man. There is still a week left and all of the midnight showings are selling out at over 1,500 theaters. Some theaters are adding 3am shows to meet these demands, some with even a 6am pre-opening show.

This is all not that hard to believe with all the intrenet viral ads, having fans scrambling for hours to decoded messages that only tell you that the movie is coming and watch for certain charaters in the film. Mind you I thought it was pretty cool with all the time and money spent.

An online version of the fictional newspaper "The Gotham Times" arrived and was followed by numerous websites, including a defaced Joker version of the paper called "HA HA HA Times". After the bevy of new websites came online and messages started appearing where the result was to wait a number of days, most of us lost the ability to keep track of everything going on.

Well a few hardcore fans have been keeping track and they've got one hell of reward - they're now members of Joker's army.

On December 3rd a new page appeared at whysoserious.com/steprightup with a hammer game and some teddy bear toys. Each toy had an address on it located in a number of cities around the US. The note on the game told people to go to that address and say their name was "Robin Banks" (get it, "Robbing Banks") and they'd get something there. It was first come, first serve, and each location was a bakery. What they were given was a cake with a phone number written on it. Now here's the best part: inside the cake was an evidence bag (complete with Gotham City Police printing) that contained a cell phone, a charger, a Joker playing card and a note with instructions.

The note read the following:

"Wow. You really took the cake! Now put the icing on it. Call [number] immediately from this phone and this phone only. Do not give this phone number to anyone else.Let's hope your fellow goons come through as well as you. Once all the layers are in place, you'll all get your just desserts. I'm a man of my word."

When the person called the number, a lady answered from Rent-a-Clown to thank the caller. Apparently she said she knew who the caller was and then after hanging up, they received a text message. It read:"Good work, clown! Keep this phone charged and with you at all times. Don't call me. I will call you … eventually."If you can believe it, the Joker now has real, live people recruited to his army sitting with a phone awaiting his call.

With the passing of Heath Ledger this movie will definately be set in history. Past writers, director and actors have all said that Ledger really brought the Joker to life, the way he brought him to the screen is how they always invisioned the Joker to be, PSYCOTIC. Ledger himself once said during an interview after shooting a full day that it was draining on him playing this roll but wouldnt give it up for anything. When he was first casted to do the job I really didnt think he would pull it off but after the 6 minute trailer before the opening for I Am Legend I was absolutely blown away. There was dead silence when the trailer finished and a 2 second appearence of the Batman symbol...all I herd was my girlfriend say "holy shit, I want to see that" and the theater exploded in cheers.

Honestly not a big DC fan and I thought the other Batmen from the 90's and early 2000 were really corny and the way they would always change who would play him was stupid, I think the charater has been done justice and will bring a good name back to the Justice League.

Check out these website:

I will update this blog or even start a new one after actually seeing the movie.

2 DUMB ASSES

I came across an article last night about the imfamous Andy Dick (Old School, Dude, Where's My Car?) who which we all remember his antics during the Pam Anderson roast and the Jimmy Kimmel show involving Ivanka Trump.

Well it doesn't seem to stop with this guy. Comedian and professional public nuisance Andy Dick was arrested in Murrieta, California just before 2 a.m this morning for suspicion of drug possession and sexual battery. Police were called to investigate a report of "an intoxicated male" urinating outside the bar and causing a disturbance. When searched by police Marijuana and the drug Xanax (I have no idea what that is by the way) was found in his pockets and he appeared "extremely intoxicated". It just gets worse from there, a 17 year old female also told police that when Andy had left the bar he walked up to her "grabbed her tank top and bra and pulled them down exposing her breasts".

You see, now if I was one of those cops I probably would have beaten his ass silly and asked him if he thought I would make a good comedian. Have a look at his mug shot that was taken that night, try and tell me that you don't see the devil in him.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 12 in Murrieta.

Keep in mind all of this mentioned above is just the tip of the Iceberg, back in 1999 he was arrested for possession of Cocaine and Marijuana after driving his car into a telephone pole in Hollywood. He pleaded guilty but the charges were dismissed after he went into a diversion program.

In 2007 he was cited in Ohio for urinating on the sidewalk. A comedy club owner also said that while he was visiting his establishment Andy groped patrons, took women into the men's room and urinated on the floor and on at least one person.

Ok seriously now Andy stop being a...DICK! I will give you credit you are a funny guy and you amke alot of people laugh, when you're sober and doing your thing, so please stay off the Coca and whatever the hell Xanax is, Mary Jane is where it's at she will never steer you wrong, but we will save that for another blog.

Which brings us to number 2. P Diddy, Puffy Doo Daddy whatever he wants to be called, I am just going to call him Sean Combs.

So he has this video blog thing he does on youtube which I happened to stumble across one day while loooking for a video on Hancock, which was a great movie by the way, and here I see Mr Combs ranting about there being no Afican American superhero's...well just watch the video first before i go on.

Really!? Now come on P Doopy you are missing sooo many "African America" Superhero's. Marvel is full of them, Steel, Blade, Storm, War Machine, Cat Woman, Black Panther just to name some of the main ones. Some of these characters have been around since the 60's and 70's so maybe before you start to flap that mouth of your which possibly contain the world's largest teeth ever, do some research or just even think before you speak.

Second what's with the racist comment on calling the guy answering the phone in the back ground "thats' my white boy" I know you don't mean anything by it (let's hope not) but it's comments like this that seer into your young fans minds and they go on the streets and start calling their homeboy's that. If this world is to ever change it's little things like that we need to stop, it's a revolving door that needs to be stopped.

Well that's it for now and hopefully the next blog will be about the Dark Knight, untill then...Holla!
